Getting an interview
call is delighting, since you made it far enough to get a call in the
first place, but it can also be frightening. A lot of things come to your mind
and you just want that job. You actually know what to do before an interview
but it’s probably all jumbled up in your mind because you’re too tensed up.
Besides dressing up well, being on time and looking your
best, there are a few other things you might want to consider, before, during
and after a job interview
to simply own it!
Research
about your company like it’s already yours
So you know all the company you’re applying for? It won’t
hurt to research a little more about it after you get the call. Sometimes a
simple question such as “What do you know about our company” can leave you
baffled like you never heard that one before.
Practice in
front of a mirror
Might sound stupid and you might even think it’s just goofing
around but, after talking to yourself in the mirror, that’s exactly how you’re
going to feel when you are sitting in front of your interviewer. Trust me, it
helps build up charisma.
Dress as
best as you can
Wear the best suit you have. If you don’t or you don’t want
to, a formal pant and shirt it is. No other choice. Dressing brings out your
professionalism.
Prepare a
list of usual interview questions
Having a list of job interview questions in your hand will save time and keep
anxiety at bay. Just don’t memorize the answers (No that was not a fact)!
Sleep early
and well before the interview day
You are excited and worried at the same time that you
actually got a job
interview the next day and you’re gazing the stars (or your ceiling)
thinking how it’ll go and before you know it, it’s 7 in the morning. Sleeping
well will ensure you give your best. Don’t take good night sleep for granted.
Eat light
but well before heading off to the interview
Taking a good breakfast will help you think and speak when
you’re there at the table. Many often neglect this one and forget to eat
because they are so anxious, the moment after getting that interview call. Eat well
but eat light! Heavy breakfast will bloat you and have the opposite what you
intend to do.
Know the
route to your interview beforehand
Searching for directions at the last moment has more than 70%
of the chances of getting you there spot on time or even a few minutes late. If
it’s possible, head off to the place where the company resides before a day of
the interview or at the day of the interview call, if you’ve got that day, else, get directions and
leave early, depending on how far it is from your place.
Know the
name of the person hiring you
It can be hilarious to realize you don’t know the name of the
person hiring you. But it’s not! Get the
name of the guy who’s your only chance of getting that job.
Grab a mint
and put on a perfume
Mint will ensure fresh breath and perfume will have you
smelling prepared, in case you didn’t know. Remember, Its all about
presentation.
Press that
power off on your cell
You don’t want your phone to vibrate because of your foolish
friend wanting you to go get breakfast while you are in front of the job man.
It’s a job interview
for heaven’s sake!
Be
confident. No long pauses while answering
Avoid keeping quiet to think after a question. Maintain that
fine line between a pause and non-stop speaking.
Keep a
professional sitting posture
How you sit can make all the difference. Upright and a firm
position on the chair is what you need. You’ll keep forgetting this one. Keep
reminding yourself.
Keep a pen
and a handkerchief
You’ll never know when you need one. And you definitely don’t
want the interviewer offering you one.
Write a
Thank you note for the interviewer
It’s courteous to leave a thank-you note for your
interviewer. That’ll make him remember you.
These are basic and obvious job interview tips we often overlook but are game
changers so take them with you to the interview and best of luck for the same!
